When is May half-term in Hampshire in 2027?

For Hampshire local-authority maintained schools in 2026/27, the summer half-term runs Monday 31 May to Friday 4 June 2027, with pupils usually returning on Monday 7 June. The Spring Bank Holiday falls on Monday 31 May 2027, the first day of that week.

The early May bank holiday (Monday 3 May 2027) is a separate weekend — this guide is about the late-May week. Other UK local education authorities may run the same week or an adjacent week, and academies and independent schools set their own dates, so check your own school calendar before you book.

Why does Sandy Point work in late May?

Sandy Point sits where Chichester Harbour meets the Solent. By late May the shoreline and lagoon, a few minutes on foot, have lost their winter emptiness without reaching the August peak, and the longer daylight means a walk on the harbour edge still works after supper.

The house suits that kind of family break:

• Exclusive-use, so a friends-with-kids group or multi-generation family is not split across rooms.

• A proper kitchen and dining space for big breakfasts before a beach day.

What is there to do that week?

• Sandy Point shoreline and lagoon: the from-the-door walk. Best at lower tide; watch the current at the harbour entrance.
• Black Point and the harbour edge: short, open, and good in late-evening light at this time of year.
• Eastoke seafront and Beachlands: the proper family beach day, with cafes along the front and the Funland amusements nearby (seasonal opening — check before you go).
• Hayling Billy Coastal Path: flat and sheltered when the wind is off the sea — the best longer walk or ride on the island.
• Chichester or Portsmouth: a short drive for a day out or a rainy afternoon — cathedral, Novium, Historic Dockyard and the Mary Rose.

Can you bring the dog?

Yes. Dogs are welcome at the house (off beds and sofas, boot brush by the back door), and late May is a good season for them here — long evenings on the shore and plenty of space.
