This policy explains how we handle personal information under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We are the controller of the personal information described here.
What we collect
- Enquiries. When you use our contact or group enquiry forms, or email us, we receive your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message. Group enquiries also include organisation, group size, preferred dates and purpose of stay.
- Bookings. Booking details are handled by our booking platform, Hospitable, when you book direct, and by Airbnb when you book there. These include your name, contact details, stay dates, guest numbers and payment information, which is processed by the platform and its payment providers, not stored by us on this website.
- Website analytics. We use cookieless, aggregated analytics that record pages viewed, the referring site, device type and approximate country, without identifying you. A random visit identifier and the campaign tag of the link you arrived from are only stored in your browser if you press Accept on the cookie banner. Full details are in our cookie policy.
Why we use it and our lawful bases
- Answering enquiries and managing bookings: to perform a contract with you, or to take steps at your request before entering into one.
- Tax and accounting records: to comply with our legal obligations.
- Keeping the website secure, including limiting repeated form submissions: our legitimate interests in protecting the site and our guests.
- Optional analytics storage and cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who receives it
We share information only with the service providers that process it on our behalf:
- Lovable, which hosts this website and provides the database and server functions that store enquiries.
- Lovable's email service, which sends the notification and acknowledgement emails when you send an enquiry.
- Hospitable, our booking platform, for direct bookings and the availability calendar.
- Airbnb, if you choose to book through Airbnb.
- Plausible Analytics, for cookieless, aggregated website statistics.
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces on this site and receives your IP address when the page loads them.
International transfers
Some of these providers process information outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is to a country covered by UK adequacy regulations, or is protected by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to a booking: up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Booking and payment records: as long as UK tax law requires, then deleted.
Your rights
You have the right to access the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@witteringsands.com. We will reply within one month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
